Helen Atkins, Diabetes Specialist Nurse, who as most of you know leads diabetes inpatient care for nurses at UHL has today been voted by an overwhelming majority chair of the Council of Healthcare Professionals for Diabetes UK.
The CHP is made up of a broad range of healthcare professionals including primary and secondary care consultants, podiatrists, diabetes specialist nurses and dieticians, to name but a few. The Council provides DUK with feedback on whether the national needs of healthcare professionals and people with diabetes are being consistently met. The patron of this Council is Her Majesty the Queen.
I am immensely proud of this achievement and delighted that Helen’s work at a National level has been recognised. Helen has already been involved in shaping the political agenda for diabetes and was last year invited to an audience with the Health Secretary.
I’m sure that you will all join me in congratulating Helen on attaining such a prestigious role. She is an exemplar for specialist nursing.
