The diabetes service, which covers all three hospitals inLeicester and has a national diabetes research centre at Leicester General Hospital, will be holding roadshows at each hospital site in the city.

Open to the public at all 3 hospital sites

On hand to answer questions from visitors and hospital staff about using insulin safely will be the diabetes team. Employees will also have the opportunity to suggest changes that would improve the safe use of insulin and learn about the training and support offered by the team.

Kath Higgins, diabetes consultant at Leicester’s Hospitals said:

“The work of our clinical team and research department is recognised nationally. With up to 20% of inpatients at our hospitals having diabetes we have a real opportunity to use our team’s skills and knowledge to have a major impact on diabetes management.
She added: “We have already identified ways we can improve the quality of care for inpatients with diabetes and Insulin Safety Week is the platform to launch this work.”

Think Glucose

Staff will also have the chance to hear more about ThinkGlucose, an educational toolkit delivered to nursing staff. The inpatient diabetes team at Leicester’s Hospitals will be implementing the toolkit across the trust over the next two years. ThinkGlucose has been shown to improve quality of care for inpatients with diabetes.
