Leicester has a strong tradition of excellence in diabetes care dating back 60 years But it was only 12 years ago that Professor Melanie Davies and Professor Kamlesh Khunti began their research programme with one nurse and one researcher. Since then, they have gone on to establish a talented and diverse team of over 130 researchers, clinicians and educationalists working together on an innovative research portfolio. Projects reflecting industry and academic research, post-graduate education and service reconfiguration are currently active alongside the clinical diabetes service.
The Leicester Diabetes Centre hosts the following groups whose work may be familiar:
The Leicester Diabetes Centre, has for the first time in 12 years, made it possible for the team to come together on one site, in one location. We now have dedicated facilities for teaching and training, a bespoke exercise laboratory, and dedicated clinical areas for research participants.
We are delighted with all that has been achieved and would like hospital staff and supporters, patients and families, and our local communities, the opportunity to share in our celebration in our newly refurbished space at the Leicester General Hospital. The Centre is grateful for the generous support of many of our partner organisations including: Novo Nordisk, University of Leicester, the National Institute for Health Research, and the Department of Health. We are especially grateful to University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust for the generous donation of space.
Come and celebrate with us on 8th November! 1300-1530hrs
