Diabetes Research at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust constitutes a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, research registrars, research nurse fellow, research nurses, research associates, assistants and administration staff.
The team carries out academic and commercial studies in all areas of diabetes to include: new oral treatments and combinations of treatments for diabetes, new insulins, including inhaled insulin. Long term cardiovascular outcomes, Pre-diabetes and prevention of Type 2 Diabetes and early detection of Type 2 Diabetes and intensive treatment.
Melanie Davies is the Professor of Diabetes Medicine Principal Investigator- Co Director of South East Midlands Diabetes Research Network, Deputy Director CLAHRC
The team also host the South East Midlands Research Network (SEM)
The new Leicester Diabetes Centre now houses the University Team also.
